This is the personal portfolio of Rick Chow. I keep data collection to a minimum: there are no accounts, no newsletter, no adverts, and nothing on this site is sold or shared for marketing.

Analytics (only with your consent)
I use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read and how people find the site, so I can improve it. When you first visit, a banner asks for your choice:
- Accept — Google Analytics may set cookies (
_gaand_ga_36YZ71HCKD, kept for up to 2 years) to recognise repeat visits. It records pages viewed, approximate location (country/city derived from your IP address), device and browser type, and how you arrived (for example a search engine or link). - Decline (or no choice) — no analytics cookies are stored. Google may still receive anonymous, cookieless signals (Google Consent Mode), which do not identify you or your device.
Advertising features, Google signals and ad personalisation are switched off. Analytics data is kept for 14 months and then deleted automatically. The legal basis is your consent; you can change your mind at any time with the link (also in the footer).
Google LLC processes this data as my service provider and may transfer it to the United States under the UK International Data Transfer Addendum / UK–US data bridge. See Google’s privacy policy and how Google uses data from sites that use its services.
Microsoft Clarity
If you accept, I also use Microsoft Clarity to see how pages are used — heatmaps of clicks and scrolling, and
recordings of page interactions — so I can fix confusing layouts. Clarity masks text you type and does not load at all if you decline.
It may set cookies (_clck, _clsk, CLID, MUID, kept for up to 1 year). Microsoft
Corporation processes this data as my service provider; see the Microsoft privacy statement.
Language and display preferences
The site is available in English and Traditional Chinese. On your first visit, your browser’s time zone and language settings are checked locally to suggest a language; nothing is sent to me or to a third party. If you use the language switcher, or the light/dark theme toggle, your choice is saved in your browser’s local storage so it is remembered next time. You can clear it at any time in your browser settings.
Contacting me
The contact form does not send or store anything on this website — it opens your own email app with a pre-filled message. If you email me, I use your name, address and message only to reply, and delete the conversation when it is no longer needed (normally within 2 years).
Embedded videos
Project videos are hosted on YouTube but load only when you press play, using YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com).
Once a video plays, YouTube’s own privacy policy applies.
Hosting
The site is a static website hosted on GitHub Pages. GitHub may log visitors’ IP addresses for security and reliability; see GitHub’s privacy statement. Fonts and images are served from this site, not from third-party font services.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to access, correct or delete personal data I hold about you, object to or restrict its use, and withdraw consent at any time. Email rickchow.uk@gmail.com and I will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with how your data is handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page will be updated.
